The Setup:

A concerte is announced. Maybe a String Quartet from Russia?! You go and by the ticket. But you are not getting a ticket. What you get, is a set of GPS Data with email, the day before the concerte. A day later, you, and probably some friends hook up your car and start your journey to the destination.

The Show:

You smell coldness, wet grass, the wind is playing its oldest song. It`s dark, but from time to time, the headlamps of other visitors` cars light the scene. You can barely see the “concerte hall” the M.C.H, due to it`s black finish. After a while, you can not tell how long, since you totally lost your sense for time, you and the others around find your way to the entrance. The crowd gathers. The tribe becomes manifest. Bonfire.

The Structure:

The “Hardshell”, made of glas fibre reinforced plastics.Painted. The “Hood”, an inflatable body.

The Features:

The “Hardshell” is dimensioned to fit on a truck (”Hardshell” width< trailersize). Demounted, all parts fit in the “Hardshell” when on the road. The blowers for the inflatable are integrated in the “Hardshell”, intakes & outtakes are on the backside, for noise reduction purposes. The overall weight is reduced, to lower ecological impact on the temporary “site”. Translucent material for the inflatable are prefered to draw the “bonfire picture”. “Kunstform” vs. “Kernform”.

8mm & 4am catching up

Thanks to Blitzfeld for the song. My parents used to have a 8mm camera back in the days. This is actually the first time I cut non-CG footage. My brother in law digitized it by simply projecting it onto a wall and capture it with his Digicam. That`s the reason for the “bumping”.

Fixed Meander Sequence 001

work in progress
I always called this project of being some kind of deleuzian, which is actually a bit of namedropping. Since a very fundamental part of the neo-materialistic approach is about the power that is intrinsic to CHANGE. And this shape is only a repetitive pattern. Maybe we could imagine, that every iterative item in itself has some kind of flexible characteristics, that might be able by that, to change itself over time. And btw., it`s a FLYING HOUSE. Who cares about philosophy, when he/ she can live in  a spaceship;) !

M.C.H V2.0 Analyse

Starting from the more visual approach of the MCH, I decided to give it a go and bring this project one step further. Since I am still closely bound to classical music, I thought it would be nice to customize this idea for chamber music. What does this mean? Well, when talking about building space for music, your first rule ist the nature of acoustic. Reflection, Deflection, Absorbance, Reverberation.Angel of Incidence = Emergent Angel. For Chamber Music, a Reverb between 1.2 & 1.6 sec. is recommended. Another pretty important factor are the “early reflections” as related to the loudness of the space. Since the basic concept will be that at least 1/6th of the room will be totally absorbing (the “floor” aka the meadow), we will need reflecting components at the ceeling and the walls. Another key aspect is an even distribution. The Stage itself, besides beeing “the cave” for the musicians, guarding their art, might function as an amplifier.

We know that sonic speed in air is roughly 3.4m/s. Am I absolutly wrong, if I suppose that no one in the audience should be farther away than 5.44m from the reflection component? And not closer than 4,08m? Well within a deviant range…

Based on this, I am starting to lay out the parameters defining the actual hull. Stay tuned!

Update (Monday,13.July.2009)

I realized, that in order to nail down a good acoustic situation, I might need to consult an expert. In the meantime I set up an basic prototype. Pay attention to the blue marked areas. One point for the source and one for the “audience”. When dealing with chamber music, we have to incorporate a range between 70 & 44 000 HZ.

Just mentioned Grasshopper. Beneath you see my first Grasshopper Experiment. Until now I am not too deep into it, but one of its main features is the intuitive approach. I had knowledge about coding at first hand, so my first  startup was privileged.

Posterdesign

Once a year, I`m doing a poster for my former school. This time the guys got a rather unusual design. Unusual for a clasiccal concerte.

Lohbach

Right in front of the “Fakultät für Architektur” in Innsbruck/ Austria, driendl*architects, build a amazing housing project. I took this picture with my wonderfull Minox compact camera. The extreme saturation and colorshift of this picture comes not from photoshop but the fact, that I used a orthochromatic black&white  film.

My new Home

Took me quite a bit to setup my new webpage. Gone the days I used to be a superfast web-nerd;). I spend the last days with rhino and its parametric epigone Grasshopper. Really amazing app! I curse myself for sticking to Maya/ MEL for so long `though I still believe, that maya is stronger when it comes to dynamic forces, real world simulation. Grasshopper is a bit of a geeky math thing. Maya a bit more dirty.
